Very often there is a small hole in the front of the drive for just such an
"emergency". (Look in the documentation for your drive if you can't find it.)
Gently insert a straightened paper clip into the hole. It's important to
insert the clip straight in - you are trying to depress a small button or
lever inside the hole. You should feel the clip touch something, then move
just a little under spring tension. The door should open. (This is an
override for the button.)
The little hole in the front and paperclip method is the quick solution.
The problem may actually be a software conflict between WinXP and an
application, such as INCD.
You may be able to use task manager to see if such an application is
running, and "off it" to see if that helps.
