Its pretty simple...
I have a Magellan gps and I recently purchased a map update. I received a
dvd disc and tried to install it but the drive doesn't recognize it. I tried
a music cd and it recognized it fine. I tried the dvd in a laptop and it
recognized it fine. When I called the Magellan support line (not very
helpful) they said I had service pack 3 on my computer and this dvd needs
service pack 2. Doesn't make sense to me.

maybe at SP3 not have format which support the magellan GPS sofware /
file.
or you not have program in your SP3 which support format from
magellan.
thats the case.

See if your drive can read a different DVD (not a music CD).
I'd check the Magellan web site, as their support line wasn't helpful, but
presumably what they were saying was, "You need to have [at least] XP SP2;
you've got SP3, so that's fine." Anyway, service pack level has no bearing
on your drive's ability to read a data DVD.
