DVD Drive

My DVD Drive is not working.
Whenever I start it (after inserting disk) it says please insert disc.
But when I go to device manager it says device is working properly.
Please help me with suggestion to rectifyThanks.

1. Does it do this with all media or only some?
2. Did it ever work?
3. Does it work outside of Windows? A good way to find out is with
Knoppix, a Linux distro that runs from cd.
4. If the drive doesn't work in Linux, swap it out for a known-working
one. If the substitute works, discard the original drive.
