DVD drive + Windows XP + Media Player = no go?!?

I also installed Direct X the latest version also.

Here is the error codes for the DVD Drive when I ran a Diagnostics for
Windows Test. I looked for the codes on the web which did not find them.

WHY won't it play it? Surely it should be built into windows media player? I don't have to get an mp3 decoder for it to play mp3s.
So, where do I get one and is it free? Google only produces lots of things to be paid for.
