I can no longer read a dvd in my dvd writer. it will read cd's I have tried 2
different DVD Drives and they work in another computer. I am running win xp
sp3.
I have tried the remove upper and lower filter fix and that didn't help.
I get no errors in the event viewer.

Replace the defective hardware.

It is likely something has gone wrong with just the laser that reads DVDs -
maybe out of alignment..

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

I put them in another computer and they work fine.
Just not in this computer. I have 2 drives and they both stoped reading on
the same day.

If they work in another computer, then it is your hardware - and not
the OS. Hence your post does not belong here.

His comments are very confusing he does not state that this drive was used in
another computer..

Try use a Cleaning CD, as the lens get dirty easily and even more if you
smoke..

Or get the drives lenses cleaned but that means that the drive has to be
removed and would cost more than a new drive.

Smoking will kill the drive completely.
