DVD Drive stopped working - why?

Stephen

Hi

Running XP Home.

DVD ROM drive WILL read a disc I've made
in my CD RW - but it will NOT play a DVD
movie. It used to but it doesn't anymore.

It just hangs.

I have checked Device Manager / Hardware;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Secondary IDE Channel / advanced settings;
Device 0
Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current transfer Mode is set to: PIO Mode
Device 1
Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current transfer Mode is set to: Ultra DMA Mode 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It doesn't give me a choice to change anything.

I can't find any drivers to reinstall on Google,
(drive came with new computer 2 years ago),
and not on recovery disk.

The DVD drive is a JLMS DVD-ROM LTD - 166S

I have tried updating the drivers within Device Manager,
but the message comes back that I have the best drivers
already installed.

Movie DVD's will not play in WMP 10, Leadtek WinFastDVD
or InterVideo WinDVD.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance - Stephen
