You really didn't give enough information to make a useful suggestion.
DVD drive model & mfr.
Was the drive an addin or a part of the system as delivered.
Did the drive ever work?
Model & make of computer
Processor & MBD chip set
What buss is the DVD connected to, what else is on the same buss.
Is the drive master or slave.
What "flavor" is the ops system IE WinXPSP2 Pro

And, are you trying to read a DVD disk or a CD? If a DVD, did you
install the DVD software that came with your DVD drive?

Windows does not read a DVD disk by default. You have to have DVD software.

Windows does not read a DVD disk by default. You have to have DVD software.

Windows will read DVDs that have been mastered in the ordinary way.
Where there may be trouble is in reading a burned DVD+R disk in a DVD-R
drive. A DVD+R one would need to be 'finalised' in the originating
system first.

Windows Version XP SP2, And the dvd drive is an internal drive. I did not
know that it was a dvd drive at first but figured it out by mistake, stupid
really. it did work with movies but i had no software to try.. now it wont
play any type of dvd.

You probably need to install one of the popular dvd player programs.
Installing one also installs the codecs needed to play a dvd.

Hi,

Dell computers comes with a complete software CD sets. You probably need to
re-install the power DVD program. Go to your add/remove programs, find the
PowerDVD or similiar program, uninstall it and then re-install it from the
CD set that came with your Dell computer.
