DVD Drive and USB

I have a Win XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8100 with all the updates and SP2.
The Problems is that sometimes the DVD Drive doesn't work at all. I have to
open and close the drive a few times or sometimes restart the machine.

The other problem i have is with a Toshiba Tecra with Win XP Pro SP2 and
sometimes the USB ports doesn't work at all. I have to restart the machine
to work.

Any Help will be great.

With the DvD Drive I would replace the Ribbon Cable and Move it to the
Secondary IDE channel as Master. For the
Toshiba disconnect all USB devices then rt click on MyComputer>select
Prop>Hardware>Device Manager>USB Controllers. rt click on each one and
choose Uninstall. Restart and let XP reinstall them. Reconnect any USB
device.
