Any recommendations for best freeware for copying DVD's (and links if
possible)
PC has a DVD rom and a seperate DVD writer if this makes any difference.
Want to make a DVD that will play in a "normal" DVD player connected to TV

DVD Decrypter - not only does it copy DVDs, but it removes all those
mindless bugs that should have been ironed out in the first stage like
CSS, region coding, Macrovision and not being able to fast forward
through adverts and copyright warnings (check the boxes that refer to
removing PUOs in order to do the last part).

Get it at http://www.dvddecrypter.com/

DVDDecrypter to rip to HD and remove Copyright etc, then use DVDShrink to
make .iso file that will fit on a blank DVD.
If you have Nero then DVDShrink will work with nNero to burn the DVD in one
go.

With DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink you should be able to back up your DVDs-

I find that sometimes DVD Shrink will fail to read a DVD for various
reasons, while DVD Decrypter is very good with problem DVDs. So I also
recommend Daemon Tools-

When DVD Shrink fails, rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter in ISO mode, then
mount the ISO with Daemon Tools, then rip the mounted image with DVD
Shrink.

Got it? :)

Why not rip with DVDDecrypter in file mode and then point DVDShrink at it?

Not sure, thats just the way I do it. :)
Although the difference between the two methods is really only a couple of
clicks and sometimes I like to run CDCheck over the mounted image just to
make me feel better.
