Assuming that both are IDE drives ...
Try every possible configuration - you'll usually eventually
find one that works. Things to try include
- putting them on different controllers
- slave if hard drive on that controller, master otherwise
- cable select, with hard drive first if applicable
- same controller
- player as master, writer as slave
- player as slave, writer as master
- cable select, both orders
Note for cable select you should use a good 80 conductor cable.
(Ideally you should be using one anyways.)
