dvd/cd-rom drive

i seemed to have lost my dvd/cd drive out of the blue.
device manager gives this message:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its
configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete
or damaged. (Code 19)

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated!

I have been having an almost identical problem. See this
article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;314060

Now I know what the problem is, but the solution given
does not work for me. The two files that it tells me to
delete from the registry are simply not there.
