dvd/cd rom drive not reading disk

I purchased a pc game last week . It was working fine up until a couple days
ago. First, the cd drive was not even showing in the my computer folder.
These are the steps I took to try and correct the problem.
1. I follwed the hp troubleshooter which said to disable the d: drive
2. after disabling the drive, the troubleshooter instructed me to re-enable
the drive
3. When I tried to re-enable it, it would not re-enable itself
4. Next, I uninstalled the disc drive and restarted the computer
5. Windows automatically found the device and re-installed it
6. A couple of times, during this process, I was able to open the disc
drive, both manually, and by selecting the 'eject disk' after highlighting
the d: drive in the my computer folder
7. Now I am unable to open the drive at all and retrive the computer disk

any advice will be highly appreciated

First you can straighten out a paper clip and push it into the small hole on
the front panel of the optical drive. This will open the tray manually and
you can retrieve your disk.

It sounds like the drive itself isn't feeling too well. Personally I'd
replace it, before it gives you any more problems.
