dvd/cd drive not working!

i have a laptop and recently the dvd/cdrw drive has stopped reading disks no
matter what i do? i havent installed any flash drive as mentioned in other
discussions, the device manager says no problems! i`ve uninstalled the driver
and let xp reinstall it but still the same?? any ideas,please????

it didn`t help though! i looked at the bios and i didnt really understand
it!! im pretty new to all this! windows does recognise the drive, it just
doesnt do any thing when i put a disk in. the nero info tool wont work unless
a disk is loaded! any more suggestions on what it could be?????

I'm having the same problems with my drive but my seems to be intermitent, so
if you get any joy would you let me knoe as well!
