dvd burning problem

I have installed a dvd backup software on my computer. And the software works
perfectly fine not until it comes to the part where you need to insert a
blank dvd to proceed to the next step to backing up your dvd's. And my
computer says that I do not have a dvd inserted in the dvd-drive, even though
I just inserted a blank dvd. Can you please tell me what is wrong with my
computer. Thank you!
