DVD Burning error - Pioneer DVD-104D

Using Windows XP Home Edition with SP2:
After taking recorded television and editing out the lovely commercials, I
ask my software to convert and create a DVD that I can play on my DVD player
that is attached to my television.
Initially I used my Click to DVD product that came with my Sony computer.
It made it through all the stages of the conversion, but failed to actually
write the image to the DVD disk. However, I can preview the image. I have
ensured that all drivers and software are up-to-date.
I tried copying a file directly to DVD and that was fine. I tried playing a
DVD, both professional and one created on someone else's computer (of an
edited TV show), and that was fine.
So, I tried a piece of trial software and could create a DVD that was
playable on my computer (Media Player). But I couldn't create one for
playing on my TV (wrong format).
Today, I removed my LowerFilters/UpperFilters only to totally disable the
drive and software. So I put the LowerFilters back in which put everything
back to how it was before.
I then tried the anytodvd.com "avi divx MPG2 dvd converter and burner"
software and created an image on the hard drive, but again could not burn it
to a DVD. The DVD drive was recognized, but continually requests a blank
disc, despite it recognizing that one had already been installed.
The disks I am using are Sony DVD-R 1x-8x, which are the same disk type that
my sister uses to make TV disks from her computer and Click to DVD software -
successfully.
Any suggestions?
