DVD burner problems

I just got a brand new dvd burner and every time i try to burn even a cd it
gets to five percent and then the burner spins really fast and then it
stalls everything and i cant even ctrl *alt *del or anything. i am using
nero 6. could it be the software. any help would be appreciated.

Is it some reboxer brand like IO magic or Khypermedia etc?

I would get the latest firmware and try using the recommended media.
Also get the latest update on the burning software you are using -
NERO.

And look under device manager to see that , theres nothing weird.

I had a problem like that with nero, some sort of software conflict I guess. I
un-installed it and installed easy cd creator by adaptec and all is well. Don't
know why I had the original problem but I assumed it was the software since
different software fixed it.

Might want to try disabling anti-virus programs and anything else that hogs
system resources while burning...
