DVD Burner not recognized by XP Pro

I have a pioneer DVD106 on a P4 system running XP Pro.
CD rom, DVD burner and all hard drives were recognized
after fresh install. I then installed Nero 6.x and my
DVD rom is not recognized by XP. I go into My computer
and right click and go into hardware and there is a red x
on it. Is there a fix for this? I looked in the
knowledge base for help at MS and all I could find is
that DVD burners use a different system then cd burners
and should be fixed with SP2. Do not know when that is
coming out and I would like to use my burner. Any help
is much appreciated

Hello

Well from what your saying all was fine until you decided
to install Nero 6, so sounds like the problem is with nero 6,
remove that aapplication and see what happens

I tried that, still not seeing it. By the way, the bios
when I turn the machine shows it as the secondary on IDE1.
Also, I should mention I do not think it was Nero. I
have looked for a solution on other boards, and it has
happenned with Roxio as well. I am not sure I am
explaining this correctly, but someone also said that dvd
burners use 32 character or string and cd burners/cd roms
use 16 and XP does not recognize all the time or that a
file can get corrupted. If I re-install XP, it will
appear for a while, and then be gone. Not sure if it is
just with Pioneer DVD or other.

Hello

Well I run XP Pro at home with all updates and run Roxio
and have a cd-rw and a DVD rom and both been working
great for the past year and 1/2 with no problem, but if you
want to try to reload windows you can give that a try
