DV-AVI capture slow motion

Hello,
Capturing from my Panasonic miniDV videocam is not working normaly anymore.
I had no problem before until now.
The capture process (with W. Movie Maker 2) seems to be running fine (with
video preview or not). When I stop the capture, the avi-file and the clips
are created but they are corrupted.
If I try to play it with e.g. W. Media Player it crashes or it plays the
clip in slow motion possibly with just the sound and no picture. Same problem
using a different video player.
The same bad results are optained when using another program (e.g. Power
Director 3) to capture the video.
On the other hand if another capturing format is specified it works just fine!
Could it be that the codecs for AVI haven been corrupted?

I will be thankfull for any help/suggestions?

The machine is a P IV running XP pro with 1,5 Gig RAM and 120Gig free on
hard drive.

Sounds like something is interfereing. Have you added any new apps or
video/audio related items since it last worked ok? Can you use system
restore to go back to this point?

I think (100% not sure) that I updated Windows media player from 9 to 10.
I already tried to go back to no avail.
Since I must complete a project before Xmas, I will capture in MPEG2 and try
to sort out the AVI problem later on.
Thanks.
