I use this util but new users should BE WARNED:
a) it never shows you what it's deleting - start it and it runs.
b) the first time it runs, it deletes ~500 megabytes of stuff (junk?)
c) it also empties the trash bin each time, some may not like that.

That would be called the "nuclear option." <grin>

thanks for the heads-up,

I have used this on about 50 comp's, never had a problem.

I've never had a problem either ... I'm just warning new users;
some people would be alarmed at the way it has no config/backup
options built in or confirmation dialog etc or listing of what it's
deleting and just runs when started.

Holy something !
I use both ccleaner and diskcleaner at system startup, but this thingy
removed another 300+ Mb that the other two programs 'missed'.
Everything seems to be still working, so it looks like this one is a
keeper.
Thanks for posting this Frank, and thanks for the warnings Hummingbird.

Same here. This is plumb scary. But so far, no harm, no untoward
effects. I tried it a time or two on my own machine a while back, but
haven't used it in some time. Now I reserve it for machines I'm doing a
major cleanup on.

CCleaner missed 300+ Mb of crap? Too bad Dustbuster makes no record
as to what was done, it would be interesting to know what it removed.

Actually I spend twenty minutes searching my hd, but couldn't figure out
what Dustbuster removed, I'm still very curious myself. It removed the 300+
Mb from a 1.5 Gb partition on the pc which before had only 150 Mb free
space left. I'm not complaining.

So this program doesn't have options/configuration file, doesn't give
any feedback of what is deleting. Doesn't have a website. It uses "fuzzy
logic". And as we can see, his users also use "fuzzy logic". Ignorance
is a blessing.

Well, if it's anything like its namesake in the non-computing world
(DustBuster) then it's a piece of crap
DId everyone who tried it have like 300mb removed the first time?

Indeed. IIRC the first time I ran it, it deleted 550mb of stuff.
When the same thing happened to my brother, he almost had a
nervous breakdown! In both cases our machines still run fine.

Your welcome.

In my case it was 550mb on a fairly new install of XP-Pro-SP2.
Similar thing with my brother on his machine using XP-Pro-SP2.

FWIW, the 2nd and subsequent times it runs, it only removes small
numbers of junk files (Windows logs etc) amounting to a few mb.

I have been using DustBuster for about two years, in 98SE and XP. It is
my default cleaner, and I never had any problem with it, but I hesitate
to recommend it, mainly because there is no Undo. And, although I have
grown to trust it, I don't use it unless I have a recent image of the
system drive.

The Readme mentions some programs it does not work well with. Also, the
Readme recommends not to use it in "critical" systems.

A way to see what it deletes is to scan the system drive before and
after with Total Uninstall, and then look at the Total Uninstall log for
missing files.

The site worked fine till recently and had detailed information in
Italian and a general overview in English. It seems the domain name
expired sometime in the last two weeks.

I have a notion that it removes Windows Security etc updates and Service
Packs which are otherwise retained in the Windows directory. I've never
dared to use it so I'm not sure but 300Mb plus sounds in the right ball
park for those files.

FYI, those where not removed.

I'm not sure about Windows Security and Service Packs, but after I
tried it, I had to use the MS Office dvd to get features that had been
available from the hard drive. I ended up reinstalling Office. I would
strongly suggest staying away from Dustbuster.

"MS Office"

Has never affected any of my MS Office installs.

I have had over 700mb removed on some comps.
