Every time I open My Documents I find 3 copies of each and every file -- one
with the word extension, one with .msf after it and one with .sdb after it.
Very annoying, can anyone tell me how to prevent this?
TIA,
Kelly

You're opening these documents from Netscape or Thunderbird mail,
aren't you? At http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=MSF you'll
find this explanation:

"Each mail folder (Inbox, Sent, etc.) is stored as two files; one with
no extension (e.g. INBOX), which is the mail file itself (in ‘mbox’
format), and one with an .MSF extension (e.g. INBOX.MSF), which is the
index (Mail Summary File) to the mail file. There is an optional
folder bearing the mailbox name with an SBD extension that contains
any sub-folders."

In other words, this is not really anything to do with Microsoft Word.
The way to prevent it is to use a different mail client.
