Duplicate item on my task bar

How do I delete an item from the task bar so it won't reappear when I
reboot?
 
And the item is?

Are you referring to the Notification area (to immediate left of the clock)?
 
Yes I have duplicate icons in the Notification area to the immediate left of
the clock.
