Hi I hope someone can help me figure out a mystery. I try
to delete some
pictures in MY PICTURES, or MY DOCUMENTS, and sometimes I
get duplicate
copies(1) (2) (3) etc..... It is so scary. What can I do
to prevent this from happening... Each time I try to
delete them, I get another copy...HELP!
I have Windows XP.
Thank you.

How many user profiles are on the machine?

This is a known bug with WindowsXP. If you use the CTRL key to select
multiple files, and then move the mouse even a few pixels, the OS thinks you
want to copy the files and does so. You must move deliberately and
carefully when selecting multiple files to delete, and if you are careful it
will not happen.

By default the system is over-sensitive to your moving the mouse a
fraction and thinking you mean to drag - and hence copy the earlier
items. Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have
installed XP SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Mouse page adjust the 'drag' sensitivity up to I suggest 25. You
will then have to drag 25 pixels - 2/3 of an icon - before it thinks you
are dragging, and a real drag will go further than that so is not
affected
