Dual Network Card Issue

Scott R

Hello,

Environment:
Could use some help in trying to resolve a problem we are having with some
IBM R40 laptops that have dual NIC's in them (they do have port
replicators). One connection is an Intel Pro VE for the wired NIC and also
has an integrated Cisco Mini Wireless NIC. OS on these clients are running
is Windows XP SP1 (firewall off) and they operate in an W2K SP4 Active
Directory domain.

Problem:
I encountered a situation the other day when I tried to ping a client that
was having an issue. All of my pings came back as failed and I couldn't
connect. The machine name the ping was trying to resolve to was not active
so it seemed. When I found out the wireless cards IP it would not respond to
ping though it was functioning on the network. How can ensure I resolve to
machine name when either or both NIC's are functioning and on the network?
Thanks for reading and responses are welcome.

Thanks,

Scott R

Make sure that one nic is always shut down. You can use either nic, but you
can't have them both going at the same time.
