Dual Monitors

Im sure a few people have had this problem, I had dual monitors and I dragged
some windows over to the secondary one and now those windows open on that
monitor by default. When i unplug the other monitor and reboot it still
thinks that it is attached and thus some of my programs/folders open on a
non-existant monitor and I can't get to them because they are on a desktop I
cannot see. Can anybody tell me how to fix this? OS is Vista Ultimate

Have you tried to get to them and move them back using Windows Explorer

Right click the taskbar icon for the folder, ensure it is not maximised (you
can't move it if it is maximised), then select Move and use the arrow keys
to move it to the monitor you want.

Right Click you Screen and just as you would change your
resolution set for One Monitor.... when you revert to two
do similar. You can also get to these by Control Panel -
Personalization - Display Settings

Right click Start select Explore
Scroll all the way up to the top and select Desktop you will see a list of
the Files.Icons on your desktop(s). Since I don't have 2 displays I am not
exactly sure how the 2 will shop up. In any case you should be able to use
the left mouse button to just drag and drop the items on the second desktop
back onto the first.
Or just hook up the second display and do the same thing.

You could plug the second monitor back in, boot up and drag everything back
to the first monitor. That may be a simpler approach.

Before just unplugging the second monitor, set the system for one monitor
instead of two. In my system, it would be in the nVidia Control Panel,
under Display, then Set Up Multiple Displays, checking Only Use One Display
(Single). If you have two monitors and have a system like this, you will
use it a lot.
