Dual Channel / P4P800 SE

Hello NG,

in Dual Channel Mode (2 x Infineon 256 MB DDR 400) the memtest-programm
"prime95" reports an error in the torture-test (CPU: Northwood 2,8 Ghz, OS:
Windows XP Prof.) Also some 3D-applications crash randomly (e.g. 3D-Mark).
The BIOS is up to date.

The problem disappears if the system runs with *one* of both DIMM (single
channel mode) in all constellations (DIMM1 @ SlotA1 / DIMM1 @SlotB1 / DIMM2
@SlotA1 / DIMM2 @SlotB1)

Any Ideas? Is it a dual channel issue, a hardware defect (that only appears
when using both DIMMs) or a mainboard-problem?

Btw: the mainboard sometimes lags 10-60 seconds during the splash screen (in
both channel-modes)

Is yr memory one recommended/ tested by mobo manu.?
eg Asus A7N8X dl state twinmos is OK, but one supplier I checked out stated
' not reccommended on nforce2 chipset boards'

Sounds like your memory sticks are incompatible with that motherboard when
used in pairs for dual channel. Time to try another brand of MATCHED RAM
sticks.

Try setting the memory parameters manually. Get a copy of

ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/ctiaw.zip

and when there is one DIMM in the computer, get the info
on your memory speed Tcl - Trcd - Trp. Here is a sample
screen.

http://abxzone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=484991&postcount=5

Shut down the computer and install the second DIMM.
Select manual timing for the setup of the memory. Instead
of 2-3-2 you could try 2.5-4-4, for example. Increase the
memory voltage to 2.75 or 2.8 volts, which is safe for just
about any DDR400 memory that runs normally with 2.6V.

It could be that only the Cas Latency, Tcl needs to be
increased, but after the generous settings in the previous
paragraph, there is no excuse for it not to work. (Except
if there is some gross Tsu,Th problem on the memory, and
that isn't too likely. I think I see mention of some
Infineon memory DIMMs using Hynix memory, and those
chips are now quite common.)

If you aren't getting error free operation, try another
brand of memory (one with a different brand of chips on the
DIMM).

Paul

Thx! TTT was right, but false default-FSB-settings, i reduced to 166 Mhz
instead auf 200 Mhz. The specifiation of my dimms differs from similar
infineon-moduls.
