I have been trying to create a dual boot system using 98SE and XP. Starting
with an unpartitioned drive, I create a 5 Gb partition using 98SE start up
disk and format and install 98SE. I then use the XP CD to create a partition
on the rest of the disk (15Gb), format and install XP. This is how MS say
you should do it. However, I have a problem. This is not a hardware issue.
When I try to boot either OS, they have problems starting the video driver.
In both OSs, I have installed all the manufacturers provided drivers. The
display shows as 16 colors at 640 x 480. I should be able to get 32bit and
1400 x 1050. If I try to change the display settings, it goes through the
motions but changes nothing. Starting in Safe Mode doesn't help.
If I install only one OS using the entire drive (i.e. one partition) I have
no problems at all.
What's going on?
