Dual Boot XP/Vista - any known problems with Vista interfering with XP MBR?

Red herring. We are talking about dual-booting.
You can indeed do a clean install of Vista to a second partition
while starting the install DVD from XP on the first partition.

Wait please... your logic does not compute!

How can XP be the problem since XP existed before Vista?

Sure XP deletes the vista restore points but it is the design of vista
that allows this. Bitlocker is not a good solution.. since if the drive
crashes it is very hard if not imposible to gain access to your old files.

And that is only in some versions of vista anyway.

Vista should have been made so it would use some other way
to work so XP would not delete its restore points!

Vista is the more recent OS that they developed.. I am sure the geniuses
in MS could have found a work around this problem had they wanted to...

but they dont and they didnt.

Its vista not XP, the horse goes first then the carriage!

I dont understand how you cannot understand this simple thing and keep
saying its XP's fault!

There is another approach to resolve problems with doubleboot, but it
requires use of cmd (DOS)
Run cmd as as administrator
Enter the follwing command: bcdedit /?
this will list all the available commands(a whole slew)
Then carefully type bcdedit /enum
this will list your current configuration
Then you're are on your own
