Sorry for cross posting but I wanted experts from both
OS's to see this.

I would like to create a dual boot system with XP and
2000. XP would be the default OS already installed on C:.
I want to install 2000 on a separate hard disk drive (D:).
Can this be done without uninstalling XP first? The KB at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;306559&Product=winxp says:
Install the operating systems in the following order:
MS-DOS
Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me
Windows NT
Windows 2000
Windows XP

What I would like to know is if I can install 2000 and
then do a repair install of XP?

Thanks,
Bill

What cross-post?

Do this:
1. Install Win2000.
2. Boot into Win2000.
3. Pop in your WinXP CD.
4. Unhide these files: c:\ntldr, c:\ntdetect.com
5. Replace them with their equivalents from the
WinXP CD. You will find them in the \i386 folder.

Note that if you install Win2000 on drive D: then it
must always be on drive D:. You will not be able to
move it to drive C:.

Greetings --

It _can_ be done with WinXP already installed. MS-MVP Doug Knox
has kindly provided clear instructions:

Install Windows 2000 after XP is Installed.
