Dual boot Win XP and 2k but win XP already installed

I currently have Windows XP Pro installed. I need to be able to dual boot
between windows xp, and 2000, but I DO NOT want to remove xp and start over
(since all the artiles I can find say to install the old OS first.) I have a
fresh hard drive in my machine for windows 2000. I have tried booting from
the win 2k cd and installing to the second drive but setup insists that drive
C is damaged and it wants to format it for me.

So! Is it possible to get around the "old os first rule"?

Thanks!

Well, you have committed the mistake already. The best you can do now, is I
am afraid to say is to format that partition and install 2000.

Its possibility that 2000 might erase all data, it might put in the recycle
bin after installing.

What you should have done in the first place is install a program such as
Partition Magic and create a partition specifically for Windows 2000 and
install it there.

You can use a third party boot manager - I use BootIT NG, from
http://www.BootitNG.com ($35 shareware - 30 day full functional trial)

With that you would first install it (to its own micro partition), then
use it to make a separate partition for the 2000, and set up separate
boot instances for each OS. In those you can ensure each is hidden from
the other. You then have the 2000 as the active one, and install into
it, later refreshing the BING installation for use (the 2000
installation will to an extent overwrite its initialisation)
