DrWatson for Windows:

D

Dan

The below information is what I see when I run the
drwatson32.exe. However I don't get the log file. When I
go to the folder where the dump flie is located and I
double click I get this message: Windows can not open
this file; user.dmp

To open this file Windows need to know what program
created it.

In my prefetch folder all my icons are like this.
I had deleated a McAfee program and used there
instructions in which I deleated info from the registry
and I think that is where part of my problem is.
I also would like to know where the DrWatson program is
so I can reinstall it on the PC.

Log File Path: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

Crash Dump: C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\user.dmp

Number of Instructions: 10
Number of Errors To Save: 10

Need Help
Thanks

Dan;
Drwtsn32.log is what you are looking for.
From Dr Watson Help
[Log File Path
The log file location must be a valid path on your local computer. The default location is
the Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson folder, which is
created when you first run Dr. Watson.
Dr. Watson will create the Drwtsn32.log file containing the diagnostic information about
program errors in this folder. Click Browse to select a different log file location.Be
sure that the path specified is one to which all users have Write permission. If Dr.
Watson cannot use the path specified when a log file is created, the File Open dialog box
appears for you to specify a new path.]

"Log File Path: C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch" this is not a good place for Drwtsn32.log. I would
change it to the default location.

To start Dr. Watson, click Start, click Run, and then type drwtsn32. There is a Help
button at the bottom.

drwatson.exe lives @ C:\WINDOWS\system32 and C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache.

My OE crashes so much that I have a Shortcut to: "C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\drwtsn32.log" on my Desktop.

Wes, first let me thank you for your time in helping me
with this problem. I did find the log in which the
program has , it is quite large. I beleive the scope of
this is over my head. I always been a hardware guy. I
still like to know where this program resides i.e. is it
on the discs that came with my PC. I still think there is
still something wrong with my PC and it sitll has
something to do with the prefetch folder.

Thank you,
Dan

Dan;
You're welcome.
Dr Watson has nothing to do with Prefetch. The only thing that should be related is
DRWTSN32.EXE-2B4B52AC.pf or similar.

*.pf file type = Prefetch (also called Scenario) File (Microsoft).

Windows XP monitors the files that are used when the computer starts and when you start
applications. By monitoring these files, Windows XP can prefetch them. Prefetching data is the
process whereby data that is expected to be requested is read ahead into the cache. Prefetching boot
files and applications decreases the time needed to start Windows XP and start applications. This
information is logged and stored on your hard drive. C:\Windows\Prefetch is where these Prefetch
files are stored.

The Prefetcher component in Windows XP is part of the Memory Manager, and helps to shorten the
amount of time it takes to start Windows and programs. Windows XP "monitors" itself and notices
which applications are launched frequently. It gathers information about these applications and what
they access with the launch and stores this information in the prefetch folder. It then uses this
information to "optimize" access to these files so that they launch faster.

I have just installed my iTunes application for my iPod on my Windows 2000 Professional Op.System.
However, I cannot run the iTunes application and have tried reinstalling it and rebooting my computer.

The error message it posts is

" iTunes.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.

An error log is created. "

I have looked at the error log but can't make any sense. Here is what it is telling me:
