Drop down selection in Pivot Tables

I am using pivot tables in Excel 2002. Sometimes records
are deleted out of the source data, and when the data
refreshes in the pivot table, the content returns OK, but
the column header drop downs continue to reference
selections that no longer exist in the database.
How can I cause these drop down lists to refresh?
