Drives show up in XP when set to not dectect in BIOS

I'm trying to disable a DVD recorder in XP. I've set the BIOS not to dectect
it, yet it still shows up in XP. Reason I'm doing this is I believe my mobo
or DVD recorder is faulty. Can XP dectect drives when the BIOS is set to not
dectect it?

Just disconnect the white molex connector to the DVD drive.

Something else yo can do is disable it in device manager.
