driver signing options not being saved

I recently upgraded to xp pro from 2000 pro. I am logged into the system
with administrative privilege. I open the driver signing window and the only
option that is available is the weak option, the ignore and block are greyed
out. If I check the "make this default option" check box, then I can change
the driver signing from weak to ignore, and when I click ok, and open this
window again, the option goes back to weak, it is not saving my ignore
option. Any ideas?

If you are logging onto a domain then a policy is overriding your choice
(because they don't want their employees installing unsigned drivers
without an intervening warning prompt). For example, read
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=298503. It is possible a local policy
has been set that you can change if you had admin privileges on that
host and you logon locally. If you are logging into a domain then you
need to speak with your domain admin regarding that policy.

Thanks for the reply.
This is my home PC, so I'm not logging into a domain. Some strange reason,
I was able to set this parameter before, but after a reboot of the PC, I
can't save a new value, it goes right back to warn. In order for me to get
this value to stay at "ignore" I have to create a new user and give
administrative privilege. The article referenced has the same procedure to
change the value through the system/hardware/driver signing windows.
