Driver problems

I lost my LPT1 at somepoint and when I created a new LPT1
and added the printer, the system, when turning on, keeps
telling me that new hardware has been found. The result
of the automatic install of the drivers, is that it failed
and the hardware may not work properly.

How do I correct this? Do I have to reinstall completely
the XP home operating system and then reinstall all
programs and data, or is there a easier method.

Go into the BIOS and change the setting of the LPT port to EPP.
