Driver Help - Rage 128 / Win98se...

Hello!

I have been using my ATI Rage 128 card just fine under Win XP - works
like a charm.

I am now configuring my system for dual boot with win98se, and I just
can't seem to find a driver that works properly! :(

I've tried 3 different versions from the ATI site, and a few from
driverguide.

The best I can get is that the card will start working properly after
SEVERAL reboots. Then, the next time I reboot, I get this message from
Win98se that my display settings are not right. At this point I
reboot, and my "settings" options are very limited! that is 16 bit
colour at 640x480, or 256 colours at 800 x 600! :(

I have a Shuttle AV18E Motherboard with an Apollo VIA chipset. Yes, I
tried the "special" driver that is supposed to work. No dice. I also
downloaded the latest 4-in-1 drivers from the Shuttle website. That
did not help either.

When I look at the device manager, it says the card is working
properly - no report of any conflicts. And this is a CLEAN install of
Win98se. (format c:, etc)

Since the card works fine under WinXP, I can only think that the
problem is the driver! I know the card works, and this is just
frustrating the heck out of me. I have done some googling, but what I
found does not seem to help.

Does anyone have any ideas?? What the heck is wrong? Is there a driver
that works somewhere? If so, where?

For reference, my Rage Bios # is: 113-61302-100

Thanks!

Solved!

After much head banging, and a LOT of reading...

I went into the BIOS on my motherboard and changed 2 settings:

1) I disabled "agp 4x"
2) Changed the AGP Video Aperature FROM 64MB to 32MB.

I tried 4MB as had been suggested, but this resulted in the "black
screen". 64MB does NOT work.

But both 32MB and 16MB are stable in my case.

Hope that helps someone!
