Drive Space problem

Lou

Hello Microsoft USer Suuport,
I have a Compaq Presario 6000 (model #6420NX,purchased
12/02 with a Maxtor 80-Gig HD). I installed Windows "XP-
Professional" last week, since then I get every "5-
minutes" a pop-up that states "My Disk Space Is Low" for
the "D-drive"? This was set-up (partitioned) at the
factory by Compaq, allocating 3.7 GB for the "D-Drive"
and now it's at 3.65 GB used (I hae 67 GB left on my "C-
Drive")...

What can I do to allocate/partition more space to the "D-
Drive". Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Lou Bortoletto.

Hi,

XP cannot resize the partition by itselves. You need to
buy a 3rd party software for resizing partitions.
Partition Magic 8.0 from powerquest.com is a good choice.
the cost is around $30 to $40.

Or, you can use the original XP CD to format and
repartition the whole harddrive then re-install the OS
from scratch.
NOTE: you need to have the original XP CD but not the
recovery CD from Compaq. Also, you must be knowledgeable
in PC.

Or, the simplest way is to move the data files from D
drive to C drive.

You do know, of course, that the D: drive is the recovery partition, and
should not be touched!

If you create a drive image of drive D: on CD's, you can then use 3rd party
partition management software to increase the size of the partition. The
CD's are needed "just in case"!
