Drive mapping issues with Home Edition

I am trying to map a drive on a computer with the Home Edition of XP
installed. The shared folder I am trying to access is on a server in a
domain. I have created a User Account in AD for the user, but have not
had any sucess accessing the shared folder.

I suspect that there is something on this particular HE computer that
is prohibiting me from accessing the shared folder, because I was able
to map a drive to the same shared folder on another computer with HE
installed. I have disabled the windows firewall on the computer but
still cannot access the shared folder on the domain.

Any clues what is going on with this computer.

Thanks,
Jerry Freeman

Jerry,

You can't join a domain with an XP Home computer, so any accounts created in AD
are pretty useless. To use an XP Home client with any network resources,
whether the resources are in a domain or workgroup, you have to create local
accounts on both the client and the server.

I am not trying to join a domain with an XP Home computer. I am trying
access resources on a domain with an XP Home computer. I know that
this can be done because I have done it on another XP Home computer.
When I try to access the domain share from the XP Home computer, I get
a dialog box asking for authentication, then when I input the
credentials instead of connected to the share I am continually asked
for the credentials and not connected to the shared resource.

Any ideas what might be prohibiting this computer from accessing
resources on the domain. There must be something on this one computer
that is not allowing the credentials to make it to the domain server.

Thanks

OK, that's another issue altogether. With XP Home, it will only work as a
workgroup member.
1) Make the Workgroup on the XP Home client the same as the domain name, so
you'll be able to see the server from the client.
2) Put local accounts on the client and server, with identical passwords.
