Hi,
I have assigned letters to my drives.
G: is for the CD-ROM.

I used the Computer Management tool to do this.
In the Disk Management section.

Each time I boot my laptop, the CD-ROM gets
back to D:

This is not related to any missing external drive.

How can I fix this, having it to remember the
letters I have assigned to the drives?`

It used to work. But now it doesn't.

Anything to force in the Registy?

Sincerely,
Steve JORDI

Steve,
I've fougnt with this for a long time also - it only happens on one of my 3
XP machines! MS support gave me a bunch of things to try - none worked.
The only interesting thing I noted was that booting into Safe Mode does not
cause the assigned drive letter to change. Go back to normal, back to the
default that Windoze wants to assign.

The only remaining suggestion, that I have not tried yet, is to uninstall
any CD burner programs (Roxio, Nero, etc), make your changes, see if it
sticks. Then reinstall the burner program. I'm still using the app that
came preinstalled, and am not sure if I can do an easy reinstall from the
supplied disk set. Yeah, I should buy a full up burner app one of these
days.

Val,

I think I found the problem. At least it
has been working now for several days since
I turned a service ON.

Go to Control Panel->Administrative Tools
Launch Servives
You should have a servie called
Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service

If it's OFF, START it and set its properties
to be AUTOMATIC.

Mine was off and now I fixed it, everything
seems to be ok.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Steve JORDI
