Guess Who

Can anyone answer this question? I updated my system to SP2 but now it
had disabled DLA and I cannot format my CD roms. I was using RecordNow
by Veritas Software but they have no updates available to help. What
is an alternative to formatting CD's?
Thanks for any help

Hi,

Thanks for your posting.

I understand that your DLA program doesn't work after SP2 was installed.
You have contacted the software manufacturer and they say a fix will be
released. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

I am sorry for the inconvenience SP2 has brought to you. This new service
pack is used to improve the computer's performance. Also, it has many
enhanced features, such as Popup Blocker, Security Center. However, since
each computer has an individual system environment, it is possible that
certain update may cause problems on some systems.

From our customers' feedbacks, a few customers encounter the similar
problem. Based on the current situation, we have reported this issue to our
Product Group. Sine
SP2 was released recently; our developers are collecting users' feedback
and performing research on the issue.

Currently, we have the following choices to resolve the issue:

1. If the DLA function is critical, I recommend we temporarily remove SP2
using the following method:

1) Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then
click OK.

2) Click to select the Show Updates check box.
3) Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Remove.
4) Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP2.

2. If SP2 is working properly except this problem, I suggest we live with
the current situation for now and wait for the fix from the software
manufacturer.

Please feel free to let me know if you have anything unclear about this
issue.

Sincerely,
Carsyn Gu

No there is no software or fix available.

The DLA function is very critical as I have no way to format CD's
without it. How else can I format my CD's?
1) Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then
click OK.

2) Click to select the Show Updates check box.
3) Click Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click Remove.

I could live without DLA if I can format CD's? Any thoughts?

DLA on my system continued to work (version 4.52) . Try reinstalling it
from your original media. It is also now handled by www.sonic.com, who
took it over - see if they have an update to 4.52.

You do not usually format CDs but format CD-RWs!

To format CD-RWs, so that you can use them in "packet-writing" mode (ie:
large floppy disc) you can look at Roxio (now Sonic) Drag to CD (part of
Easy Media Creator 7) or Ahead InCD (usually part of Nero).

Actually they are CD-R but you know what I meant

You do realize you don't have to "format" CD media to be able to write
to it? In fact, by avoiding formatting you end up with more reliable
data storage. Packet-writing is well-known for it's flakiness,
especially when you "really need" that data that is only on that
packet-written CD.

or 4.52?

Try your 3.59. but look at sonic for that 4.52 update - it would be
better
