Here is the log of a successful drive installation, done when my computer
was put together by the people that built it:

Here is the log of just one of several failed attempts at installing two
different types of drives. One is a USB camera that is seen as a drive; the
other is a new hard drive. Both devices showed the same errors starting at
the line which begins "#-035"

Sorry this is so long. Anyway, both the Olympus Camera and the WDC hard
drive (shown here) are assigned drive letters and as far as I can tell so
far, they work fine. But every time I boot I get the "The specified service
does not exist as an installed service." message at the end of the install
wizard dialog, and the yellow wraning thing show sup next to them in the
Device Manager.

Here is the successful Maxtor registry entry (the HardwareID has been

It looks to me like the "DriverDesc" which should say 'Disk drive" has the
"FrinedlyName" info in it and that the lines for Driver and FriendlyName are
missing, as well as the Service line.
The entry for the other failed install is similarly corrupted.
I am wondiring if my disc.inf file is corrupted and where I would go to
repair it.
Anway, sorry this is so long.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't know what it is supposed to look like when it isn't corrupted so I
can't tell, but yes, I did look at it. There is nothing in it that looks
unusual.
I am beginning to think it is something else, but I don't understand why it
is trying to load a "filter service", if that is what it is trying to do.
Thanks,
Dave
