drive full

I am getting an almost full message. I have a C drive with 15GB and 963 MB
free. I have a D drive with 60 GB and 55 free. I guess it is telling me
that C is almost full. I have tried to drag a few large folders from C to D
but they don't seem to want to go. How can I free up C or use D? I
obviously have a bunch of space, I just need to know how to use it.

clear temporary files and any system restore files on c drive. if any heavy
game or programs are installed on c drive u can shift them to d drive. also
clear all logs, back up files and if partition is NTFS u can try compressing
less often used folders

what most people do is move all personal files to their D:... they may
also install games or other programs under the D:\ instead of the C:\
leaving the C:\ as teh Operating system and Page file only. Make sure
when you move files over that you are moving, not copying.. if you copy
your C: will not get any smalller because only a copy will be made to
the other hard drive. You can also move your profile to the D:....this
would move all your settings, my documents folder, etc to the D:\...

This can be tricky, but not out of reach. Mostly you want to 1st start with
software that you have installed or that came installed on the PC when you
got it.

Anything that can be easily reinstalled, you need to uninstall. Microsoft
Office is a great place to start, but you may use another Suite package.
After you uninstall everything that you can, go into the Program Files folder
and see if there are any remains that didn't get removed. Delete what you can.

If you keep Windows up to date regularly, you will find quite a few HIDDEN
directories in the Winnt or Windows folder. Delete everyone of them. They
start with a $NT and might be blue to signify compressed. Delete them. Same
for the Temp directory inside of Windows and in the local settings folder in
your profile.

You should defragment your hard drive after doing this.

Now that your PC is clean you want to reinstall everything that you
uninstalled. BUT when it asks you where you want to install it, Change the
drive letter from C:\ to a D:\. Also remember to do this in the future when
you are installing.

You will find that even with a sub 20 gb partition C: drive running only OS
and the few things that HAVE to be installed on this partition it will be
easier to keep clean and running smoothly.

Another good trick is to go into Settings under the Internet Options and
MOVE the folder to the D drive.

As you suspected the message is refering to "C" drive.

The problem is that there are a lot of answers to this ; so the exact
message and what system specs are would be a great help to fix the
issue.

Basically speaking you just don't have enough space and you are going
to have to do something:

1) delete old files to unallocate and free up space
2)Transfer files....catch22 situation here...in order to transfer a
file there must be enough free space in the main drive to copy the
file...this is probably why you were unable to transfer the files to
some where else.
3) reduce the paging file space to the minimum allowed....R.click my
computer icon > properties > "advanced" tab >
performance area "settings "tab > "advanced"
tab > virtual memory area "change" tab > select
custom size and in the box change the maximum amount to the lowest
setting your system allows then ok out.
4) turn off system restore and reboot to free up additional
space......
R. click "my computer" icon > "properties" >
"system restore" tab and check the box to turn it off and
apply and ok out.

These are just temporary items that you could do to force enough space
in order to transfer other files. I strongly recommend that you look
into partitioning and reformatting and reinstalling to set up your
computer for better manageability.
