Drive Access restricted. went from domain to workgroup

Boy I think I really messed this one up. I'm having problems installing
software and accessing some features on all of my drives. It says I don't
have permission even though I'm logged in as Administrator.

My domain controler SBS 2003 went down so I have been working without it for
a week now until I have time to fix it. I have a laptop that was never on
the domain and a computer that was on the domain. I wanted to share some
files but couldn't because one computer thought it was on a domain and the
other on a workgroup. Since the domain controller was down I decided to
change the domain computer over to a workgroup. here is what I did.

First I logged off and logged back on only choosing to log onto this machine
locally instead of the domain. Then I made changes and switched from using a
domain to using a workgroup and then I noticed all of my problems.

I have tried giving all kinds of permission to everyone, administrators, and
myself. When I try to change permission and inhearited sub folders I'm told I
don't have permission to do this. HELP!

Logging-on with a local account doesn't take the machine out of the domain.
To do that you need to go into Control Panel>System and change the computer's
identity to being a workgroup-member.

The reason for your problem is that the domain-member computer refers all
share-access requests to the domain-controller for authentication. Unlike
logons these aren't cached, so without the domain-controller you can't access
the shares on ANY domain-member computer.

A workaround would be to create a share on the non-member laptop. Since
this doesn't rely on the controller it will still work.
