DreamScene has encountered an error -- Vista 64-bit Ultimate

First Try... New to Vista 64-bit Ultimate. Have been using one of the
DreamScenes for a number of weeks now without encountering any troubles with
it until tonight right after finishing my first full backup of the C:\ drive
using Norton Ghost 14 successfully--I think.

Anyway, out of the blue I got "(X) Windows DreamScene has encountered an
error. | Windows DreamScene has detected that Explorer was not closed
properly. As a precaution DreamScene has been temporarily disabled."

I rebooted and enabled DreamScene again and in only a few minutes the exact
error was repeated. In both cases the background reverts to a tourquoise
default solid color and the box so far seems to otherwise run fine.

Since I'm very new to Vista (but not XP) I haven't any clues what caused
this. One might not think Ghost 14 or Norton 360 v2 would have had anything
to do with it? Is the fault DreamScene or Explorer. If one does somehow
manage to shutdown incorrectly (which I was totally unaware of if I did) how
does one get out of that and straightened out?

Any ideas how to resolve this or how to approach the problem?

Thank you.

Has it settled down? I went into Safe Mode and returned. Discovered that
the Aero Scheme had to be reset before I could set DreamScene and get the
Gadgets background working. I then noticed that the hdd was on almost
constantly for over 15 minutes. So far things look back to normal.

So, I noticed in the sound Mixer that there is a Windows DreamScene volume
level set to 75 like all the others but I get no sounds from any of the
DreamScenes. I was wondering about sounds while first watching the
Waterfall--no options I could find?

When DreamScene hiccups I loose its background to solid black
(default?)--I've set this to teal now--maybe. I also loose the DreamScene
sound mixer--but it doesn't seem to do anything anyway--need to learn more
about it. In addition I once lost the Aero Scheme too. I'm feeling pretty
confident that my trying to set up Norton Ghost 14 is the likely culprit.
I've been finished with the Norton 360 v2 setup and configuration for a
couple weeks now and it never caused these problems. I did try to set up a
wireless Bluetooth Mac only mouse yesterday which didn't work because the PC
couldn't find the right hardware. I'll get the right hardware version today
and try that again. I burned the Symantec Recovery disk for Norton Ghost 14
last night and tried it to see if it booted up okay. I have some sort of
memory error problem with it too now and afterward either it or Ghost 14's
background monitoring caused another loss of DreamScene. I dread calling
Symantec and MS (Vista 64-bit) on these issues but will brave that when it
comes to it. First I'll call Sager Monday morning after seeing if anyone
else can add anything to this.

I'll continue to monitor this thread but until I learn something definitive
about DreamScene "conflicts" I'm reverting back to a boring, leave it alone
solid teal background. :)
