Drawing canvas

I want to insert a small table on the bottom half of my page. I want to be
able to toggle the "show and hide" option. So far, when I try to insert a
drawing canvas to lay it down over for position control, the canvas jumps up
to the graphic at the top of the page. If I place the table on a text frame,
the "show and hide" option doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

i've never heard of the "show & hide" option .. could you explain what this
is, where you find it etc

Billybob,
Get rid of the drawing canvas. Go to Tools, Options and click on the
General tab. Uncheck the box that says automatically create a drawing
canvas when creating autoshapes.
This should cure the problem.
