If you right click (by the autofill button???) and drag, you'll see an option to
copy or fill.

If you're not comfortable with rightclick, try holding down CTRL while you
drag.

What to do when the SERIES command is not working? My p;roblem is
that in my spreadsheet I get ONLY copy instead iof fill when I drag
the little + handler to the desired area.

Any idea?

Any chance you're in the middle of an autofilter range?

If yes, then Data|filter|showall and try it again.

If no, what cells do you have selected and what's in those cells?

Then we can try to duplicate your situation.

Does holding down the shift key do that?

Chris probably meant it should work if you hold the Ctrl key
down while dragging.

Interesting that if you select a cell with
a number that it copies down the number, but if you type
something A1 into a cell it will increment without having
to hold the ctrl key down.

If you placed your number into a cell and the incemented cell
below it and selected both then use of the fill handle by itself
would provide the series. The other way is to drag the fill handle
down with the right mouse button and then choose linear.

My notes on the fill handle

BTW, You can insert or delete rows and columns by pressing
SHIFT while dragging the fill handle, which is not what you asked.
