Dragging lines using Shift key

Hello,

I have drawn a squaredotted horizontal lines in my word document. It
almost looks like a series of periods, like, ...................

Now, after inserting this line object, I wanted to extend the line,
which I was able to do by pressing the shift key and elongating the
line using mouse.

My question is, the mouse control moves quickly and it drags a certain
length. I wanted just to add one additional dot to the line. I had to
struggle a lot with shift and mouse to add just one additional dot to
the line or even remove one additional dot to the line.

Is there a keyboard control for this activity, so that i can press
shift key and this other keyboard control so that I can elongate the
line minutely.
