Dr Watson Error Opening Image Folders

Every time I try to open folders that contain image files (like eps, ai or
tiff for example), I get an termination error followed by a Dr. Watson
error:

The instruction at 0x7c918fea referenced memory at 0x39353343 (or
another random number here). Memory could not be written.

Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem.

Then Explorer crashes and then comes back up. Running XP SP2. Fresh
reformat and install and this would happen occasionally before I reformatted
recently.

Any ideas where to start? I found something about Illustrator and preview
mode, but have turned that off and still get the errors. It doesn't happen
every time, but more times than not.

Thanks!

This may come from software that runs in the background. Read "How to
Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP"

Advanced Clean-Boot Troubleshooting in Windows XP"

Also make sure that all core files are ok with the System File
Checker.

Tried all these solutions. I had to create a slipstream XP SP2 CD to run
sfc. It didn't find any errors.

I did do a complete format and install a few weeks ago. This problem has
occurred both before and after the reinstall.

Thanks!

Then you may have to reinstall Windows. Do a virus scan before.

What does the virus scan say? Have you checked the HDD for errors yet?
