downloading zip files

Gaz

I'm having an odd problem with IE6 on WinXP. When I download
regular files, such as .exe and .mp3 etc I gets= the normal request asking
where to save etc.

However, if I downloas a *.zip file no request comes up, and in the
bottom left hand side of IE window it indicates that the file is been
downloaded. Once downloaded it opens (as an extracted file), and is
resideing in the Cache.

Anyone think of a solution??

Hi Gaz,

Enable the "confirm open after download" option for that filetype:

Click "Start" -> "Program Files" -> "Windows Explorer".
Then click "Tools" -> "Folder Options".
Change to the "File Type" tabs.
Scroll down to locate the file type. Highlight the ZIP filetype and click
the "Advanced" button.
Then check the option "confirm open after download".

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.
