i have just bought an ultra portable laptop, some of the weight loss i
due to it not having a cd drive. I have now come to loading softwar
(word) and am stumped how to do it. where can I download word 2000,
have my product key. Thanks in anticipation

Hi Paul,

You should be able to copy from your original CD to a USB drive using another PC and run the instal on your PC from the USB drive.

There is no legal ethical site from which you can download Word 2000. If you
have an MSDN or TechNet subscription, you might be able to download Word
2003 (not sure about earlier versions), but I'm pretty sure that Office 2000
hasn't been available for many years (can't verify that right now... MSDN
seems to be down).

An Asus Eee, by any chance?

Search it in eBay -- there's a guy in England who will sell you the
instructions for installing Windows XP without a CD drive for US$3,
which these days is probably about 1 pound sterling, and it can't be
too different to install Word if you have the recent model that comes
with XP instead of Linux.

The obvious solution is to buy an external USB2 cd/dvd drive and plug it
into the laptop. A conventional cd/dvd drive will fit into an IDE 5.25"
external hard drive case which you can buy for pocket change from eBay or
from your PC dealer.
or
If you have a desktop PC also, network the two machines and install across
the network.
