Can Word 2000 be downloaded?

I have Word 2000, can't afford an upgrade right now... I have disc with COA.
I already erased Word from old desktop (donated), and my new computer with no
word-processing facility except Wordpad, has Vista Home Premium. It will NOT
recognize the Word CD! Disc just spins and spins. Others, OK. Computer is
Acer 5610Z, 2GB RAM, Pentium dual core, 160 GB HD.

So I was wondering if there is a legal way, perhaps from Microsoft, to
download it... thus avoiding the CD drive. I don't want or need all the apps
that come with Office, just Word.

There is no legal way that Word 2000 can be docwnloaded from the internet. A
better plan would be to investigate why the PC will not read your disc.

Another consideration: If Word 2000 on the previous computer was an OEM
version, it cannot legally be installed on another machine.

I'm still trying to figure out why my laptop with Vista won't accept the Word
disc. It is not OEM, it is original purchase with COA key. Other discs
work... my printer drivers and software, some games, etc., and Writers
Dreamkit. I just wished MS would have a download site where those with COA's
could d/l software without discs, like many companies do.

You should be able to get a replacement CD and/or license key from MS with
your proof of purchase. See “How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing
Microsoft Software or Hardware†at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326246
and “How to Obtain a New Product Key for Office Program Setup†at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823570

The only problem would be that Office 2000 is out of support.
